September 12- 13 4:00pm – 7:00pm

Fashion and food collide during the Seattle Design Festival Block Party… Martyr Sauce is excited to feature two of Seattle’s most celebrated and community-minded artists in their respective fields.

Erika Massaquoi - The OULA Company www.theoulacompany.com
Curator-turned-designer Erika Dalya Massaquoi will show vintage West African textiles from her nascent ready-to-wear line, The Oula Company. Oula’s colorful West African and Indian textiles will be “upcycled” into a beautifully crafted quilt and exhibited at Martyr Sauce. Massaquoi received a doctorate in cinema studies at New York University and held positions in the School of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York before relocating to Seattle and establishing Oula in 2014. “Disguise,” an exhibit on traditional masks and contemporary African art that Massaquoi co-curated for the Seattle Art Museum, is on view through Sept. 7.

Tarik Abdullah – A DJ and a Cook www.adjandacook.wordpress.com
Seattle chef Tarik Abdullah has been featured on ABC’s “The Taste” and Vice’s “Munchies,” and celebs like world renowned chef Anthony Bourdain sing his praises. Abdullah shares his gifts with the community by teaching cooking classes for kids, and through his pop-up dining series, A DJ and a Cook #FeedThePeople.  During the Block Party, the chef will cook up a storm at Martyr Sauce and his food will be available to purchase and enjoy.
